Fifteen Seniors Awarded Red Sox Foundation Scholarships

The Boston Red Sox presented 15 high school seniors with a $5,000 college scholarship in a pregame ceremony March 26th. The recipients were chosen based on academic excellence, financial need and a demonstrated commitment to community service.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Vanessa Kinley Bonita Springs High School
  • Jennifer Congora-Caruncho Cape Coral High School
  • Autumn Rodes Cypress Lake High School
  • Ah’riyah Kemp Dunbar High School
  • Janalicia Nava Ozuna East Lee County High School
  • Justin Breitenstein Estero High School
  • Dalevyon Knight Fort Myers High School
  • Rozaria Brown Gateway High School
  • Ella Daudbasic Ida Baker High School
  • Tawny De La Fe Cruz Island Coast High School
  • Alexis Smith Lehigh Senior High School
  • Brek Aydogmus Mariner High School
  • Makayla Ashley North Fort Myers High School
  • Mar Perez Riverdale High School
  • Deborah Ghullikie South Fort Myers High School

The 15 students plan to attend universities ranging from the University of Florida, UCF, FGCU, Harvard, Georgia Tech, Rice and more and will major in computer science, business, aerospace, engineering, nursing, biology, communications and more.

“These students are going to be stepping out and doing many amazing things in the future,” said Dr. Jennifer Cupid-McCoy, Deputy Superintendent for the School District of Lee County. “We are incredibly proud of our students. This is a new beginning for them, and we wish them the best. We cannot wait to see what they achieve.”

Scholarship funds are raised annually from proceeds of the Red Sox annual Swings for the Sox Golf Tournament. Swings for the Sox has raised more than $497,000 for local charities and specifically $437,175 for the scholarship program.
This prestigious scholarship award is for students pursuing a two-year or four-year degree at any college or university.
